### Manual

This simulation uses a cellular automaton to illustrate diffusion, the distribution in 2-dimensional cell space over time of randomly moving particles.

- INPUT button provides access to parameters that control aspects of the simulation and the return to OUTPUT variables;
- START button initiates and then allows to PAUSE or CONTINUE the simulation;
- RESTORE button restores the simulation to initial conditions at time 0.

Clicking on labels provides extra information and the ability to change INPUT parameters. Parameters should not change if incorrect values are entered.

The summed values of cells in the cell space

The averaged values of cells in the cell space

### Cell number

The number of square cells in the cell space.

WARNING: Drawing routines require considerable processing power. The browser of your mobile phone or older computer can become unresponsive when cell numbers are too high. In that case, change INPUT parameters. For instance, first select 1D-graph under Dimension, uncheck Grid and increase Interval, before selecting high cell numbers and starting simulation.

The number of iterations of the simulation

### Fill mode

Check the box to activate manual filling or emptying of cells

Fill or empty individual cells manually by moving the mouse while left mouse key is pressed

The minimum value of cells in the cell space

The value of the cell at position XY of the cell space

### Dimension

Select either the graph that shows the 2-dimensional distribution of the values of cells with higher values in darker shades of grey or, the graph that shows the 1-dimensional distribution of the cells along a horizontal line section at half the height of the cell space
